Covid Vaccines

The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine (also known as Vaxzevria) faced scrutiny and concern regarding its safety. Reports emerged of rare but severe blood clotting events, specifically thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), in some individuals who received the vaccine. This led to several countries temporarily pausing its use or recommending it only for older age groups, as the risk appeared to be higher in younger individuals.

Another vaccine that faced similar scrutiny was the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine, which was also linked to rare cases of TTS. Both vaccines remained authorized for use as health authorities concluded that their benefits outweighed the risks for most populations. However, ongoing monitoring and updates to usage recommendations were implemented to ensure safety.
